Managing Director, Graeme Mathie, is set to leave the football club to take up a new role with the Scottish Football Association
Throughout his time at Somerset Park, Graeme has shown tremendous commitment to Ayr United, working tirelessly alongside the board, staff and wider club community. His hard work and dedication have been greatly appreciated. He leaves with the sincere thanks of everyone at the club.
Chairman, David Smith: "While we are sorry to see Graeme move on, we wish him every success as he takes this next step in his career. We are grateful for his contribution over the past five years, and he will always be welcome at Somerset Park."
Graeme Mathie, who will leave later this month following five years at the club, said:
"It has been a privilege to serve as Managing Director of Ayr United for the past five years. I’d like to thank the volunteers, staff, players, management team and board for their hard work, commitment and support throughout my time at the club.
When I joined in 2021, I met a Chairman with a clear vision to change the face of Somerset Park and a determination to invest significantly in the infrastructure required to take Ayr United forward. In football, articulating a plan is one thing; delivering it is another. It has been a pleasure to see David Smith turn that vision into reality through the completion of the Hub, the car park redevelopment, the North Stand and infill, the purchase of the Railway Land and the development of the new training ground - it’s incredible to think how much has been delivered in such a short period of time.
As I leave to take up another opportunity, I’m clear that Ayr United is a very different club to the one I walked into in 2021. With hardworking staff, a growing core of supporters and local businesses behind the club, and an engaged and supportive Board, the foundations are firmly in place for Ayr United to continue moving forward.
Results on the pitch will always fluctuate, particularly given the competitive nature of the league, but the last four full seasons have brought some fantastic moments including Mark McKenzie’s last minute winner at Inverness to gain a 2nd place finish in 22/23 and the team securing Ayr United’s record Championship points total in 24/25. I’m proud to have played a small part in that progress.
The journey to success is rarely linear, but with continued support, ambition and togetherness, I’ve no doubt there will be many more good times ahead for Ayr United.
I leave with some brilliant memories, great friendships and a genuine sense of pride in how far the club has come. I wish David, the board, Gary, the players, staff, volunteers and everyone connected with Ayr United every success for the future"
